Thomas the Train - A fun but NOT Fabulous Northwestern NJ Family Outing from Phillipsburg, July 9
I am certain that the heat on Friday beat the rain on Saturday but I'm sure glad we had the earliest ride possible on Thomas the Train from Phillipsburg in Northwestern NJ.
Frankly, the ultra-noisy toy train whistles were the best part and I would not recommend the outing to anyone other than die-hard Thomas fans! The engineer caps were adorable but it was just too hot for them. We three always have fun but this event wasn't our favorite...
Thomas the Train - Northwestern NJ Family Outing from Phillipsburg - early July 2010
When the 11 a.m. Steam Train heading to the mines pulled into the station, we were sorry not to be getting on that. It was much more impressive than Thomas - even for the 3 and 5 year olds. Guess we'll be doing that next - once the weather cools down.

Irene, loved reading your adventure. Reminded me of last year when I thought it would be fun and different to take my family on a train ride to Hearst Castle. The Castle was great..but the train ride....NOT!!!! My family is a very impatient bunch. Hearing "Are We There, Yet?" every nano second kinda took the adventure part down a wrong turn :)
Our ride only lasted 25 minutes, Keisha. Part of my criticism - we never got a full head of steam and crawled along slooowwwly... But hats off to us both for trying out new adventures!!!
Irene - Thomas couldn't steam up? I guess not enough breezes if you're going to slow in this sun we're having huh? Oh well... Thanks for sharing your hot adventure with us anyways....
Fortunately, we 3 Kennedy kids have fun no matter what, Bob. Really had a blast post-Thomas when we took a dip in the creek running through my yard!
I've heard many disappointing stories when it comes to train rides. I think the idea of the adventure always far surpasses the actual trip. The important thing, though, is that those two kids got some quality time with aunty and they will remember that most of all.
Sharon,
Right on all counts! We had more fun back at the farm. Swam in the creek and played hide & seek in the woods.
How fun is that!
brings back a lot of memories

Charles,
Ahh, another larger kid! I love doing this kind of stuff still.
I would have done both Thomas and the steam engine, even if I had another appointment to go to. Trains comes first! LOL
Well, you're much more wealthy, Russel! LOL. Why don't you come join us on the fall foliage steam train ride? I'll buy your train ticket, you the plane...
